Monitoring fluid saturation in reservoirs using time‐lapse full‐waveform inversion

چکیده

Monitoring the rock-physics properties of subsurface is great importance for reservoir management. For either oil and gas applications or CO2 storage, seismic data are a valuable source information tracking changes in elastic which can be related to fluids saturation pressure within reservoir. Changes estimated with time-lapse full-waveform inversion. properties, such as saturation, inversion usually two-step process: first, inversion, then, However, multiparameter prone crosstalk between parameter classes across different vintages. This leads leakage from one class another, which, turn, introduce large errors parameters. To avoid inaccuracies caused by strategy, we reformulate estimate directly properties. Using Gassmann's model, adopt new parameterization containing porosity, clay content, water saturation. In context monitoring, assumed induced fluid substitution only. The porosity content thus kept constant during We compare this usual density-velocity benchmark models. Results indicate that proposed eliminates parameters vintages, leading more accurate estimation changes. also show using based on monitored accurately.

Study of Two Phase Fluid Flow in Water Wet Reservoir Rocks by Using X-Ray In situ Saturation Monitoring

Displacement of oil and water in porous media of reservoir rocks is described by relative                      permeability curves, which are important input data for reservoir performance simulation and drive mechanism studies. Many core studies, such as multiphase relative permeability, capillary pressure and saturation exponent determination, depend on the volume fractions of multiphase flui...

Application of an extended Kalman filter approach to inversion of timelapse electrical resistivity imaging data for monitoring recharge

[1] We apply an extended Kalman filter (EKF) approach to inversion of time-lapse electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) field data. The EKF is a method of time series signal processing that incorporates both a state evolution model, describing changes in the physical system, and an observation model, incorporating the physics of the electrical resistivity measurement. We test the feasibility of u...

Monitoring of hydrocarbon reservoirs using marine CSEM method

Marine controlled-source electromagnetic (MCSEM) technology has been successfully established as an effective tool for offshore hydrocarbon (HC) exploration. In this paper we consider another application of the MCSEM method for HC reservoir monitoring. We demonstrate that EM methods can also be used for the monitoring of producing wells in connection with the enhanced recovery of hydrocarbons. ...
